Without modifying the look of the instrument, the S-MOD 2 gives you 6 pickup combinations you can't normally get with a standard S style guitar - the two outside pickups, all three, plus, four series/parallel combinations that simulate humbuckers. It's done by adding two push pots, commonly on the tone controls.
